Fix St James - Sydney

We had a red wine dinner here at Fix St James on a week night. Not a good move as it was really hard to make it to work the next day. The wines were spectacular and we had a few too many. The wine list at this CBD restaurant is amazing with over 100 wines by the bottle and glass. Tonight though was a tour through a number of reds - Tempranillos, Nebbiolos, Shiraz, Cab savs and Bordeauxs. Chef Sam Bennett (ex Glebe Point Diner) had matched the 4 course meal to the wines. Canapés were his famous chicken liver pate with pear jam and hot crisp cheese stuffed zucchini flowers. The two dishes are below and the flavours and freshness of the food was stunning. The cheese course went brilliantly with the bordeaux at the end. Wish I could have tried some desserts though…next time….

 

Quail with smokey eggplant and cracked wheat. This dish was stunning and the highlight. The full quail was soft and hot while the crunchy cracked wheat was cool.

Wagyu flank with local mushroom and eschallots. The huge succulent mushrooms were the highlight for me on this dish. Very nice.

More wines that we should have had.
